Reunions

Berzsenyi Reunion 2005

During a marathon 10-week stay in Hungary during the summer of 2005, George and Daniel hosted over 140 Berzsenyi relatives at the first egyházasberzsenyi Berzsenyi reunion to be held since 1941.  The gathering was held near Daniel's summer home in Nemesvita, close to the Lake Balaton.  The 28-foot-long family tree that George printed and displayed was a real attention-getter, and the meal served was enjoyed by all.

The first reunion of the szent-lászlói és balatonfüredi Varg(h)a family was a great success.  While George prepared the invitations and assisted in some other ways as well, the main organizer of the event was Attila Tóth, a third cousin once removed.  The reunion was held in the family's old hometown of Balatonfüred, where several of our common ancestors are buried.  The day's first event was a trip to their graves, with some flowers.  Following that, we had good food and wine and fellowship on one of the old Varga estates.

Svastits Reunion 2005

The ninth reunion of the bocsári and csécsényi Svastits and Svastics families took place at the summer home of my second cousin, Ilka Svastits and her husband Lali Török in Gyenesdiás, and was organized by their children and nephew Tibor Svastits.  It was a lively event, with many of the more than 70 attendees knowing each other well, and enjoying meeting again.  This was the first time that George was in Hungary at the right time to be able to attend the meeting, which was originally initiated by his cousins dr. Egon Svastics of Hungary and Jimmy Svastics of the United States.
