IMTS Books
The USA Mathematical Talent Search (USAMTS) and its extension, the International Mathematical Talent Search (IMTS) were created by Dr. George Berzsenyi, a native of Hungary, in an attempt to parallel his native country’s famed publication, KöMaL, in order to foster talent development in the area of mathematical problem solving. The problems in the two programs (USAMTS and IMTS) were identical; there were four rounds of 5 problems every year.
These two volumes cover the first 13 years of the USAMTS (including the 11 years during which the IMTS was in existence, since it was started later). Detailed and insightful solutions are given to all of the 255 problems which were used in the program. In addition, Part 2 contains some USAMTS problems from latter years, since the USAMTS is still alive and well.
Starting in 1989, each year hundreds of students submitted solutions to the problems of the USAMTS. They competed against one another both in submitting the most commendable solutions and in the accumulation of the most points over the year. Their excellent solutions were utilized in the preparation of these volumes.
